I'm excited to report that Socorro, Mexico is back on the Evolution Dive Travel schedule for 2029 and this time with the liveaboard "Nautilus Explorer". I have reserved half of the boat (12 spots) while the other half is taken by friend and fellow photo pro Richard Barnden who is heading up his own group. I've been to Socorro twice before and can say that the big animal encounters are the best I have experienced. Combine Socorro with an optional warm up excursion chasing bait balls at Magdalena Bay and this is one helluva trip. Socorro Diving
Socorro is actually part of the Revillagigedo Islands that lie 250 miles SW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They have been compared to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador or Cocos Island in Costa Rica because of the big animal encounters they provide, such as giant mantas, humpback whales, playful dolphins, tuna, pelagics and 7 shark species. All of this action yields some of the best animal diving on earth! On occasion orcas, false killer whales, bait balls and plenty of other surprises can be seen. The shear level of biomass is impressive and the photo subjects cooperative and abundant.

Dive Requirements
You must have an Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent and be prepared to fin against stiff currents on steep walls with changing environmental conditions. We will be diving from dive skiffs known as pangas. Any physical issues that may prevent you from getting on and off the panga safely must be brought to tour leaders attention before hand.
Getting There
•Airlines that service Cabo San Lucas are United, Delta, Alaska, American, Aeromexico, West Jet and Air Canada. Contact me with any and all help with your bookings.
•Your dive package can be customized with earlier or later departure and arrival dates.
Magdalena Bay Expedition - Optional
Located on the Pacific coast of Mexico's Baja California Sur, offers world-class pelagic snorkeling and freediving rather than traditional scuba diving. From October through January, the area plays host to a massive sardine run that attracts striped marlin, sea lions, mobula rays, and whales in a high-speed feeding frenzy.
Physical Demands
You need strong swimming skills to keep up with fast-moving bait balls, climb repeatedly onto small pangas, and handle open-ocean currents.

We will be staying at the Hotel Alcatraz in San Carlos. Infrastructure there is rustic and centered around small fishing communities.

Getting There
Best to arrive in La Paz airport (LAP) via Mexico City or LAX. A van will pick the group up and drive us to San Carlos. On Nov 10 group will be driven to Cabo San Lucas.
Dive Accident Insurance - Mandatory
Every passenger MUST carry diving accident insurance such as Divers Alert Network (DAN).
Trip Insurance - Recommended
We strongly recommend every passenger purchase comprehensive accident, medical, baggage and trip cancellation/interruption insurance. The insurance will protect the passenger from financial disappointment in the event of an unforeseen circumstances.
